Taunton Island is a small island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . In the group of the Aitcho Islands in the English Strait , it lies north of Emeline Island . Together with Bath Island and Cricklewood Island , it forms the group of the Riksa Islands .
It was named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 2013. It is named after the town of Taunton in Somerset , where the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office was located until 1941 and which has been the headquarters of the authority since 1968.
