history
settlement
Tawa Flat was first settled by Pākehā in the mid-19th century, under the leadership of Edward Gibbon Wakefield of the New Zealand Company . In fact, it was divided into 100 and 1 acre blocks, much like the other early settlements in New Zealand. Much of the eastern part of Tawa belonged to a single family until the need for habitable land exceeded the need for arable land. 1951 a part of the place of Tawa and Linden was merged. Within two years it became the Tawa Flat district.
