Tawkar ( Arabic طوكر; Alternative spelling Tokar ) is a city in Sudan in the state of al-Bahr al-ahmar . It is located near the coast of the Red Sea on the Barka in the so-called Tokar Delta . The region around Tawkar is one of the hottest and driest regions in the world.

history

The city came to prominence in the Mahdi Uprising when it became the scene of several skirmishes.
