Teşvikiye Mosque

The Teşvikiye Mosque is a neo-baroque mosque in the Teşvikiye district of Şişli in Istanbul , Turkey .

Originally the mosque was built in 1794 by Sultam Selim III. commissioned. The existing one mosque but was only in 1854 under Sultan Abdülmecit I. completed. At the same time, other well-known buildings were erected or renovated in Istanbul, such as the Ortaköy Mosque and the Dolmabahçe Palace . The neo-baroque style was adopted from Europe. The front with its large white pillars was built during a renovation in the late 19th century. The mosque and its neighboring café have become a striking meeting place for the Nişantaşı district . It became an important starting point for funerals for famous artists and politicians.

Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk visited the mosque in his childhood .
