Tech Data is a wholesaler ( distributor ) of IT products and entertainment electronics as well as telecommunications and has branches in North and South America, Asia and many European countries and is considered the world's second largest IT distributor behind Ingram Micro

The German headquarters are in Munich, with further branches in Nettetal and Waidhaus, among others, and the main warehouse in Bor (Czech Republic).

In 1998 Tech Data took over Computer 2000 AG , Munich, the German and European market leader in computer wholesale, and Tech Data had more than 30 regional branches. In 1996 Computer 2000 AG was still the third largest IT wholesaler worldwide, behind the US companies Ingram (now Ingram Micro ) and Merisel (El Segundo, California), which were completely removed from the market in 2004. In 2016 Tech Data took over the Technology Solutions division of competitor Avnet (Arizona, USA) for 2.6 billion US dollars.

Different portfolio areas cover, for example, the spectrum from consumer products to mobile devices in the Endpoint Solutions portfolio to corporate IT with advanced solutions. The most important product lines of Advanced Solutions are the offers of the manufacturers HP, IBM, Dell and Oracle for sales partners.

In November 2019, it was announced that the investment and private equity firm Apollo is acquiring Global Management Tech Data for $ 5.4 billion. The takeover was completed at the end of June 2020.
