The Technological College Merano (TFO Merano), former Commercial College Merano (GOB Merano), is a Technical College in Merano . It was founded as a branch of the TFO Bozen (ex GOB) in 1991 and is named after the German engineer Oskar von Miller , who also worked in Tyrol.

education

The educational path is divided into two parts, the biennium (1st – 2nd grade) and the triennium (3rd – 5th grade). The biennium is general education and deals with the same content in all other technical colleges . In the triennium, the subjects construction with a focus on environment and spatial planning and electronics / electrical engineering with a focus on robotics / industrial informatics are offered.

history

The TFO Meran was founded as a branch of the “Max Valier” commercial college in Bolzano in the 1991/92 school year after the temporary school building in Mateottistraße became vacant. In January 2001 the school moved to a building on Otto-Huber-Straße. Since 2012, the TFO Merano and the Realgymnasium have been in the school building of the Realgymnasium with a specially built extension, where the electronics / electrical engineering department has been located since 2003. The school's library was the first in the region to organize the computerized book management and lending service as early as 1984.

Projects

Climacubes

Climacube was a joint project of the TFO Meran, state vocational school "Dipl.-Ing. Luis Zuegg" Meran and the commercial college "Franz Kafka" Meran . The project started in the 2006/07 school year and ended in May 2011. The aim of the project was to research the influence of different construction methods in 12 cubes with different insulation materials. The cubes were mounted on the roof of the school building of the Realgymnasium Merano and the measurement data were uploaded directly to the internet every 5 minutes . Over a period of two years, the surface temperature , humidity , room air temperature , and power consumption of the heating elements could be observed and evaluated.

"Max Valier" satellite

In a joint project of the TFO Merano, TFO Bolzano and the association of amateur astronomers "Max Valier" one is satellite designed and built, then the June 23, 2017 a Russian carrier rocket All brought. The project pursued both didactic and technological goals, because space technology opens up completely new learning content for high schools. The satellite has been equipped with an X-ray telescope and was realized in cooperation and with the support of Orbitale Hoch Technologie OHB in Bremen.
