The Realgymnasium Meran , previously Scientific Lyceum Meran , is a science- oriented high school in Meran . It was founded in 1972 under the administration of the Meran Humanist High School and named after the German physicist Albert Einstein .

education

The Realgymnasium offers two subjects for enrollment . The students can choose between the general subject Realgymnasium and the Realgymnasium with a focus on applied natural sciences, depending on whether they prefer a broad general education with Latin or want to devote themselves primarily to the natural sciences without Latin. The Realgymnasium focuses on dealing with mathematics and the natural sciences, their findings and their technological applications against the background of humanistic culture and tradition .

As part of the “Applied Natural Sciences” focus, students acquire specific skills in the field of experimental methods in natural sciences and their applications.

history

The Realgymnasium "Albert Einstein" Meran, RG Meran for short, is a general secondary school in Meran. It was founded in 1972 as a scientific lyceum under the administration of the Merano Humanist High School under the direction of Franz Kurz. In 1976 the school became independent and was named "Realgymnasium". In 1982 the school was named after Albert Einstein after proposals such as Michael Gaismair or Josef Mayr-Nusser had been rejected. In 1999 the directorates of the Realgymnasium and Technological College Merano were merged.

Projects and events

Marine Biology Week

Every year the third grades have the opportunity to improve their marine biology knowledge and to strengthen the feeling of togetherness on a one-week trip . Both the travel destination and the accommodation can be decided by the students in consultation with the teachers. The aim of the trip is to explore the underwater world and get to know it better, especially with snorkeling , microscopy and theoretical lessons .

Science Night

One of the annual events is the Science Night. For this purpose, the school invites a graduate who is professionally active in the scientific and technical field to give a lecture on a topic of their own choosing. Most of the time, the topic of the lecture relates to current research projects. The Science Night always takes place on an evening in March or April . The event is public and accessible to all interested parties. The Science Night has been taking place in the Peter-Thalguterhaus in Algund since 2013 .

Europe day

Since 2013, Europe Day has been celebrated around May 9th together with other Merano schools. On this day, pupils from German and Italian schools work together on topics relevant to Europe, such as respect for human rights , democracy and solidarity, and present these to the audience present.
