Technotise: Edit i ja (dt. Technotise: Edit and I ) is a Serbian science fiction - animated film by Aleksa Gajic from the year 2009. The film is also known as Robot Metropolis sold.

action

Belgrade in 2074: intelligent robots , anti-gravure vehicles and other future technologies shape the cityscape. The psychology student Edit M. Stefanović failed another exam, which is not well received by her family. The next time she tries to pass the exam, she has a military microchip implanted in a dealer to improve her mental abilities.

Edit also works for a company as a supervisor for an autistic young man named Abel Mustafov. He developed a kind of world formula, which, however, first made all the computers that tried to calculate it aware of themselves and then caused them to crash. When looking at the formula, the chip in Edit's body becomes active and, by being connected to it, manages not to crash. There are major changes in Edit's body: the chip builds its own nerve network and temporarily takes control of Edit, with which it communicates and which gives it the name Edi.

Edit's employers are finding out all of this and want to take control of the resulting technology, which would mean Edit's death. Together with Edi and her friends, Edit tries to get out of the situation.

production

Technotise: Edit i ja had its premiere on September 28, 2009. It is a filmed continuation of the graphic novel ( comic ) Technotise from 1999.

The film contains various allusions to the popular culture of Serbia and Southeast Europe: The police will still drive old Yugo models in the future , but these have been further developed into anti-gravure vehicles. Edit has two small, intelligent robots in the shape of a rabbit and a bear that are a nod to a popular type of joke. Slobodan Milošević appears in a surreal flashback . In the film there are allusions to certain peculiarities of Southeastern Europe and Serbia, such as the making of coffee in the Džezva in the late 21st century.

Differences to the comic

Although the 1999 comic book Technotise is regarded as the predecessor to the animated film, there are significant differences. For example, Edit is an archeology student in the comic, and the year is 2047, 27 years before the film's plot.

criticism

“Well worth seeing Serbian animation film for adults with dry humor, which skillfully combines conspiracy, sci-fi and thriller elements. “Technotise”, however, weakens in the connection between the individual sequences and the somewhat superficial examination of the main theme. Visually it takes getting used to, but extremely successful. "
