Techny , originally an independent community, has been a district of Northbrook (County Cook) in the state of Illinois in the USA since 1989 .
Techny is known as the US headquarters of the Congregation of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD, Divine Word Missionaries ). St. Mary's Mission Seminary in Techny, opened in 1909, was the first seminary in the United States designed primarily to prepare priests for missions abroad.
