Ted Turner (actually David Allen Turner ; born August 2, 1950 in Birmingham , England ) is a British guitarist , founding member of the rock band Wishbone Ash .

Inspired by the British blues boom of the 1960s, Turner began playing guitar at the age of 17. He played in a local band, King Biscuit , and unsuccessfully applied to Colosseum .

In 1969 he replied to an ad that Martin Turner and Steve Upton were looking for a guitarist for a new band. Since the two could not choose between two applicants, Ted Turner and Andy Powell , after a second rehearsal, they finally took both into the band that became known as Wishbone Ash.

Ted Turner and Andy Powell formed one of the most influential lead guitar duos in rock history, influencing bands like Thin Lizzy , Iron Maiden and Big Country . Turner played on the first four albums of Wishbone Ash, sang and wrote a few pieces.

In 1974 Turner left the band and went to America, where he performed with various artists and bands in the 1970s and 1980s. He came back to Wishbone Ash in 1987, but dropped out again in 1994.

Turner has lived and played in England again since 1997.
