The company's roots go back to the shipping company founded in 1973 by Torben Karlshoej in Trondheim . The company name is based on his initials TK . The ship fleet consists of around 150 units of various types. Since 1998 this includes Floating Production Storage and Offloading Units (FPSO); In 2012, five ships of this type were in service, such as the Petrojarl Banff in the North Sea or the Petrojarl Cidade de Rio das Ostras off the Brazilian coast. The Petrojarl Banff will be decommissioned in 2020 due to the exhaustion of the oil fields . The Petrojarl Cidade de Rio das Ostras was also sold for demolition in 2020.
