Tefal SAS , based in Rumilly near Annecy in France, is a manufacturer of cookware and small household appliances that was founded in 1956 and has been part of the global Groupe SEB since 1968 .

Surname

The name is an abbreviation from Teflon and Al uminium. Tefal was the first manufacturer of pans with a non-stick coating in Europe and a pioneer in the marketing of Teflon-coated cooking utensils to consumers worldwide. In some countries, such as the USA, the company operates under the name T-fal , as the Teflon developer DuPont saw too much name similarity between Teflon and Tefal .

history

In 1954, the engineer Marc Grégoire developed a process to apply Teflon ( PTFE ) to aluminum discs. From 1955 on, he and his wife made Teflon-coated aluminum pans in home-based production and sold them to chefs. The Teflon coating improves the properties of pans: food can be removed more easily from the bottom of the pan and cleaning is easier. The pan business was so successful that Grégoire founded the Tefal company in 1956 and began producing coated pans on an industrial scale.

In the following years the brand grew steadily and since then has also been active in the field of small electrical appliances, personal scales and pressure cookers . In 1968 Groupe SEB took over the company and continued to run the Tefal brand.

Tefal is represented worldwide (120 countries). The main focus of sales is in Europe.

marketing

SEB works with prominent chefs to market individual Tefal product lines. British chef Jamie Oliver has been promoting high-quality products since 2004, e.g. B. the "Jamie Oliver Professional Series by Tefal". The German chef Thomas Bühner developed the Thomas Bühner Induction series together with Tefal .
