history

The Tegernseer Volkstheater was founded in 1898 by Hans Lindner in Gmund am Tegernsee and initially gave mainly in the Black Forest and in the Heilbronn area . During the First World War , the stage was directed by Lindner's wife Adele, due to the economic situation in Germany, after 1918 the theater mainly performed in Switzerland. In 1922 the company passed to Lindner's son, Otto-Hermann Lindner , who added comedies and serious plays to the program in addition to the previously mostly played Schwänken. Between the world wars, the Tegernsee Volkstheater not only played on German stages, but also gave guest performances in Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and what was then Czechoslovakia. During the Second World War , the stage committed itself as a so-called "front theater" with performances in France.

After Otto-Hermann Lindner's death, his nephew Lothar Kern took over the management, from 1991 to 2008 the theater was directed by Florian Kern, since 2009 the management has been in the hands of his brother Andreas Kern , who had been a member of the Chiemgauer Volkstheater for 27 years .
