The TeleVideo Corporation was an American computer manufacturer based in San José , California . TeleVideo had the peak of its success in the early 1980s. It was founded in 1979 by Dr. Kyupin Philip Hwang, a Korean native of Utah State University . Hwang first founded a company in 1975 that manufactured screens for arcade games .

The TeleVideo Corporation terminal protocol was very popular in the early days of microcomputers and was supported by many applications and terminal emulators (as TeleVideo 925 emulation ).

TeleVideo built, among other things, CP / M -compatible 8-bit personal computers and portable PCs based on the Z80 processor. Up to sixteen of these machines could be interconnected to a proprietary multi-user system via a serial interface .

The company later also manufactured Windows- compatible thin client computers. This business area was sold to Neoware Inc. in October 2005, which was taken over by Hewlett-Packard in 2007 .
