Telecine (Warez)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Telecine ( English for film scanner ) or TC for short describes in the Warez scene a copy of a cinema film that is illegally distributed on the Internet and that was ripped , i.e. removed, directly from the film carrier using a professional film scanner . The concept of the process is differentiated on the one hand from Cam-Rip / Telesync , where the film is recorded with a video camera in the cinema, and on the other hand from DVD-Rip , in which a legally available rental or purchase video is used as a template.

Immediately after a film has been released in Germany, only cam rips, telesyncs and possibly telecines are available on the Internet, as the film industry does not start marketing DVDs at the same time, but with a delay of a few months. The advantage of telecines is therefore the faster availability of a higher quality display compared to the alternatives that film the image from the screen. While the latter are often shaky, washed out and flickering, the quality of a telecine almost comes close to that of a rip of retail media. However, the overall image is often too dark due to the low level of lighting during the scanning process or has color distortions.

From a technical point of view, telecines are more difficult to manufacture: a film scanner is an expensive studio device which is rarely found in the hobby area; physical access to the footage is also required; i.e. it must be B. be borrowed or made by a cinema employee. For these reasons, few films come into circulation as telecins. On top of that, the increasing degree of digitization in the industry makes this technology increasingly superfluous.
