Telefomin is a town and at the same time the capital of the Telefomin Rural Local-level Government and the Telefomin District of the Sandaun Province in Papua New Guinea . The place is on the uppermost Sepik in the west of the country, in the Star Mountains in the area of the central highlands. The Bimin-Kuskusmin ethnic group is at home here.
The place is also known for the decorated house entrance boards (amitung) and battle shields (atkom) . Such pieces can be seen in various museums such as the British Museum of Mankind London , Australian Museum Sydney , Museum für Völkerkunde Berlin , Museum für Völkerkunde Basel , Musee National des Arts Africains et Océaniens Paris .
