Telesia
Telesia was an ancient Samnite city in the Italian region of Campania . It was located on the right bank of the Calor river shortly before its confluence with the Volturnus , between the present-day places Telese Terme and San Salvatore Telesino .
Telesia is not mentioned during Rome's long wars against the Samnites, but only in the Second Punic War , in which Hannibal took over the city in 217 BC. And Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus recaptured it three years later. After being temporarily Colonia , the city belonged as a Municipium to the 4th region of Italy. The Samnite military leader Pontius Telesinus came from Telesia .
Most of the archaeological remains are the city wall. There are streets, two baths and a theater within the city. Outside the walls was an amphitheater . Telesia has not yet been systematically researched, but numerous inscriptions and grave finds are known.
