Pontius Telesinus

Pontius Telesinus († November 1, 82 BC ) was a general of the ancient Italian people of the Samnites .

Life

Pontius came from the Samnian town of Telesia , as his nickname shows. 90 BC During the alliance war he was one of the most important leaders of the Italians in their uprising against Rome.

In the civil war after Lucius Cornelius Sulla's return from the East in 83 BC. BC Pontius once again organized Samnite troops, which intervened in the fighting on the side of the Populares . With the Lukan general Lucius Lamponius he tried in vain to relieve the younger Marius , who was besieged in Praeneste , and then hurried to Rome , which he hoped to reach and take before Sulla.
