Telford House

Telford House is a former storage building and is now a residential building in the Scottish town of Burghead in the Moray Council Area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1988.

history

The present Burghead Harbor was established by 1810. Storage buildings were built along the pier on Granary Street for handling goods . Since the port facilities were planned by Thomas Telford , the present building was later referred to as Telford House . It was completed around 1810. The attic belonged to a row of storerooms. The neighboring building has meanwhile been demolished. With Buildings 1-8 North Quay and 72 Granary Street , two other preserved buildings are listed. In 2010 Telford House was converted into a residential building with several residential units.

It is the final building on the west end of the street. It was the highest attic in the row of buildings. The four-story Telford House is built into the slope, so that it is entered from the street on the first floor. Its exposed stone facades are five axes wide on the harbor side and three axes on the street side . On the port side, the central axis with the main portal and the loading gates above is designed with a round arch with keystones . The extended entrance door along the street is accessible via a short front staircase. The final gable roof is covered with slate . Its ridge is made with stone caps. The chimneys are gable.
