Temotufoliki is the third largest island of the Nanumea Atoll in the South Pacific island state of Tuvalu . It is located in the east of the atoll, only 30 meters north of the eastern arm of the main island Nanumea and borders the southern lagoon . The island is 24 hectares .
The small island is densely forested and uninhabited.
According to traditional lore, the island is said to have originated from sand that fell from the baskets of two women when they fled from the Tongan warlord Tefolaha .
