Tempe Canal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tempe Canal is a canal in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona . It begins on the Crosscut Canal and flows today at Ehrhardt Park into the pond of the residential and sports complex Dobson Ranch Park in the suburb of Tempe in the city of Phoenix (Arizona) .

The original purpose of the canal was to irrigate agricultural crops, which is no longer possible as a result of the urbanization in its area. Today the canal serves as an urban open space, as a fire fighting water reservoir and for air humidification. The canal water is mechanically cleaned at a waterworks at Erhardt Park .
