Temple recommendation slip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The so-called temple recommend is a prerequisite for entering a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .

Issuance of the temple recommend

There are two types of temple recommend, the limited, which allows only participation in vicarious baptisms and confirmations, and the full, which allows participation in all temple ordinances. For the full temple recommend, two interviews are held to determine the worthiness of the applicant. The first meeting at the local level is usually held by the community leader (e.g. bishop ) or one of his counselors. The second interview is usually conducted by the stake president or one of his counselors. If a regional stake is not organized, responsibilities lie with appropriately called priesthood holders (such as mission presidents). A conversation with the bishop is sufficient for the restricted temple recommend. The interviews are generally conducted in private.

Admission to the temple interview

In general, a Church member must be at least 12 years old to have a temple interview with a responsible priesthood holder. The male members still have to hold at least the Aaronic priesthood . Newly baptized and adolescents can only receive a limited temple recommend. To receive a full temple recommend, one must have been a member of the Church for at least one year and hold the Melchizedek Priesthood male.

The temple interview in full

The following questions are asked in the current wording during the temple interview:

  1. Do you have firm faith in God the Eternal Father, in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit , and do you have a testimony about them?
  2. Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and his role as Savior and Redeemer?
  3. Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these last days?
  4. Do you recognize the President of Latter-day Saint Church of Jesus Christ as the prophet, seer, and revelator, and as the only person on earth who holds and is authorized to exercise all the keys of the priesthood ? Do you recognize the members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you acknowledge the remaining General Authorities and local Church authorities ?
  5. Do You Live the Law of Chastity ?
  6. Is there anything in your behavior towards members of your family that is inconsistent with Church teachings?
  7. Do you support or associate with groups or individuals, or do you consent to those whose doctrines or actions are inconsistent with or oppose those accepted by Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ?
  8. Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, attend sacrament meetings and priesthood meetings, and live according to the laws and commandments of the gospel ?
  9. Are you honest in your dealings with other people?
  10. Are you paying a full tithing ?
  11. Do you obey the word of wisdom ?
  12. If you have already received the endowment:
    1. Do you keep the covenants you made in the temple?
    2. Do you wear the garment both night and day, as you were taught in endowment and according to the covenant you made in the temple?
  13. Are there any sins or misconducts in your life that should have been cleared with a priesthood leader but not cleared?
  14. Do you think you are worthy to go to the Lord's house and partake of the ordinances there?

Validity period

A temple recommend is valid for two years. After this time it must be reissued. Again, the two interviews are necessary for this.
