Tempyō-Jingo

Tempyō-Jingo ( Japanese 天平 神 護 ) is a Japanese era ( Nengō ) from July 765 to September 767 according to the Gregorian calendar . The previous era name is Tempyō-Hōji , the following era is called Jingo-Keiun . The era falls during the reign of the Empress ( Tennō ) Shōtoku, who previously ruled under the name Kōken .

The first day of the Tempyō-Jingo era corresponds to July 23, 765, the last day was September 12, 767. The Tempyō-Jingo era only lasted three years or 782 days.

  • 765 The Buddhist monk Dōkyō is promoted to Dajō daijin zenji ( 太 政 大臣 禅師 ; roughly: "Priestly Grand Minister").
