Tendai "The Beast" Mtawarira (* 1. July 1985 in Harare , Zimbabwe ) is a South African rugby union poker players, who on the position of the pillar for the South African national team , in the Currie Cup for the Natal Sharks and the Super Rugby for the Sharks plays. Due to his explosive style of play, he quickly earned the status of a crowd favorite.

Career

Mtawarira began playing rugby in his native Zimbabwe when he was nine years old. At the age of 16 he was discovered by the Sharks and accepted into their academy. At first he played as number eight , only in 2006 did he move to his current position.

Mtawarira ran for the first time in 2007 for the Sharks in Super 14, the forerunner of Super Rugby, and for the Natal Sharks in the Currie Cup. The speed, which is unusual for his position, and his strengths in the crowd quickly made him a regular player. In 2008 he was able to win the Currie Cup with the Sharks. That same season he also made his debut for the South African national team against Wales . A week later he made his first attempt against Italy .

In 2009, Mtawarira was on the South African squad during the British and Irish Lions Tour . The Springboks won the series against the Lions 2-1 and also secured the third title at the Tri Nations in the same year.

In 2019 Tendai Mtawarira won the title at The Rugby Championship with the South African national team and then the World Cup in Japan .
