Two tender boats (13 and 15) and a lifeboat (11) of the AIDAmar

A tender boat is a special dinghy used by cruise ships . It is mainly used for the transport of passengers between the ship in the roadstead and the port. A tender boat is also always a fully equipped lifeboat .

Tender boats are carried in davits above the promenade deck and are therefore easy to reach in the event of a sea emergency . Larger tender boats have a catamaran hull and can accommodate over 100 passengers.

In recreational shipping , the dinghies are sometimes also referred to as tenders (boat). Most of these are inflatable boats for the transport of people and materials, but they are not suitable as a lifeboat.
