The AIDAmar is a cruise ship owned by the British-American Carnival Corporation & plc . She was built as the third ship of the modified Sphinx class at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg and has been in use for the AIDA Cruises group brand, which is specially geared towards the German market, since delivery in May 2012 .

The AIDAblu , the AIDAsol and the AIDAstella are identical sister ships.

Like the other AIDA ships, it sails under the Italian flag . Costa Crociere in Genoa , the southern European subsidiary of the Carnival Group, is responsible for the operational cruise operations . In the first few years, she managed the operation herself via her branch in Rostock . According to the company, Carnival Maritime GmbH, founded in February 2015 in Hamburg , has now taken on this task .

On December 13, 2007, Carnival Corporation & plc ordered two more cruise ships to put into service for their AIDA Cruises brand. The price per ship was given as 385 million euros. The first ship with the project name AIDA SPHINX V was put into service as AIDAsol in 2011 . The AIDAmar was planned as the AIDA SPHINX VI project for the following year. The keel was laid under construction number S. 690 on April 20, 2008. On April 1, 2012, the ship was finally undocked at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Emsland. On the evening of April 12, 2012, the transfer of the AIDAmar over the Ems from Papenburg to Emden began, where it arrived early in the morning.

On November 24, 2010, the shipping company published the name of the second ship and announced its christening as part of the 823rd Hamburg port birthday . At the baptism of AIDAmar on 12 May 2012 in Hamburg also were AIDAsol, the AIDAblu and the Aida Luna on site. The ships formed a star formation in the Hafencity area , then drove one behind the other, the AIDAsol ahead, the AIDAluna at the end, to the fish market, where they met the AIDAmar during a light show . The christening by the 20-year-old Sissi Kuhlmann from Hamburg was followed by fireworks that were burned down synchronously from five launch pads.

Cabins and on-board facilities

The cabins, deck layouts and the equipment of the AIDAmar are based on the ships of the modified "Sphinx" class that have been realized so far. In addition to the seven restaurants, AIDAmar also has an on-board brewery. A novelty on the AIDAmar are flat screens in the inner cabins, which also allow a sea view there. Otherwise, of course, they also offer the on-board television and information system iTV, which is known from the sister ships.

The AIDAmar has two panorama deluxe suites and two panorama suites.

Routes

The AIDAmar offers a summer and a winter route. In the summer of 2016 and 2017, the ship sailed the classic 7-day Baltic Sea tour from Warnemünde with the ports of Tallinn , St. Petersburg , Helsinki and Stockholm . After the transfer to the Caribbean via Greenland and North America , the ship sailed the Caribbean and Central America route in winter 2016/2017 with destinations such as Colombia , Panama , Costa Rica , the Cayman Islands , Jamaica , the Dominican Republic as well as Tortola , Sint Maarten and Antigua . The boarding was possible either in Montego Bay or in Santo Domingo .
