The AIDAperla is a cruise ship owned by the British-American Carnival Corporation & plc that entered service in May 2017. The ship of the Hyperion class was developed by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries- shipyard in Japan Nagasaki built. The AIDAperla is in use for the shipping company AIDA Cruises, which is specially geared towards the German market .

Like all AIDA Cruises ships, the AIDAperla sails under the Italian flag . Carnival Maritime GmbH in Hamburg is responsible for cruise operations .

history

Procurement and construction

On August 3, 2011 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced the agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc to build two cruise ships at MHI Nagasaki Shipyard & Engine Works , these ships form the Hyperion class . The AIDAperla , the second ship in the Hyperion class, was due to be delivered in March 2016. The total price was given as 140,000 euros per lower bed; this corresponds to a real price of around 455 million euros per ship.

The keel of the ship with hull number 2301 was laid on December 14, 2012 at the Tategami shipyard in Nagasaki.

In October 2014 it became known that the AIDAperla could not be delivered on time. A delivery in March 2017 at the earliest was aimed for.

The name was announced in March 2016.

Handover and baptism

On April 27, 2017, the AIDAperla was handed over to AIDA Cruises at the shipyard in Nagasaki . On April 28, 2017, the ship's data (position, temperatures, course and speed) went online.

The AIDAperla left the shipyard on May 3, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. On May 28, 2017, the ship was put into service in Naples and initially called at the ports of Genoa and Palma de Mallorca .

The christening took place on June 30, 2017 in Palma de Mallorca . Godmother was Lena Gercke .
