history
Over the centuries different spellings of the name appeared: 1761 Togier , 1828 Togyér , 1851 Tógyér , 1913 Tógyér , 1920 Toader , Toghir , Tógyér , 1923 Toager .
Thodier is entered on the Josephine land survey of 1717 . After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat . In 1760, serfs of ecclesiastical goods from the area around Zagreb were settled in the village. In 1840 the village was owned by the Zagreb Cathedral Chapter.
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Tógyér . In the period 1880–1890 150 Hungarians were settled in Tógyér.
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three , whereby Toager fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period Toager belonged to the Giulvăz chair district and had more than 1000 inhabitants.
Because of its proximity to the Serbian border, Toager keeps making headlines over illegal cigarette smuggling. During the refugee crisis in Europe from 2015 , Iraqi and Syrian refugees also crossed the border at Toager.
