The city of Tengzhou ( Chinese  滕州 市 , Pinyin Téngzhōu Shì ) is an independent city in the east Chinese province of Shandong , which belongs to the administrative area of ​​the independent city ​​of Zaozhuang . It has an area of ​​1485 km² and has around 1.57 million inhabitants. Until 1988 the place was a district, Teng County (滕县 Tengxian).

The Neolithic Beixin site ( 北 辛 遗址 , Beixin yizhi , English Beixin Site ) of the Beixin culture and the site of the capital of Xue ( 薛城 遗址 , Xuecheng yizhi , English Xuecheng Site ) are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China .
