Teodor Kocerka

Teodor Kocerka (born August 6, 1927 in Bydgoszcz , † September 25, 1999 in Warsaw ) was a Polish rower who was one of the best single rowers in the world in the 1950s and won two Olympic medals.

Teodor Kocerka won his first international medal at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , when he won bronze behind Yuri Tjukalow from the Soviet Union and the Australian Mervyn Wood . In 1953 Kocerka finished second behind the Yugoslav Perica Vlasics at the European Championships, in 1954 he won silver behind the Swiss Alain Colomb . 1955 Kocerka won the European Championships before Yuri Tjukalow. In 1956 Vyacheslav Ivanov won the European Championships in front of the German Klaus von Fersen , Kocerka received the bronze medal. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 only four rowers reached the final, Kocerka was able to prevail in his semifinals against New Zealander James Hill and Klaus von Fersen and moved into the final behind Ivanov. There, however, Kocerka only finished fourth. In 1959 Kocerka won again bronze at the European Championships behind Ivanov and von Fersen. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , Kocerka reached his third Olympic final. Behind the sure winner Ivanov, three rowers fought for the medals, in the end Achim Hill from the GDR won silver ahead of Teodor Kocerka and James Hill.
