Terence P. Thornberry

Terence P. Thornberry is an American sociologist and criminologist . He is Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Boulder .

Thornberry studied sociology at Fordham University ( BA , 1966), criminology at the University of Pennsylvania ( MA , 1971) and sociology there ( Ph.D. , 1971). After teaching at the University of Georgia and the University at Albany , he has been a professor at the University of Colorado since 2004.

Thornberry's main research interests are developmental criminology , to which he contributed his interaction theory. In it, he assumes that a person's tendency to crime is related to the weakness of his integration into society. According to Thornberry, however, influences on these bonds change with age.
