Teressa ( Nicobar : Luroo ) is an Indian island and belongs to the Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean .

It is located west of the neighboring island of Camorta and northwest of Katchal . The smaller island of Chowra is to the north and Bomboka is to the east. In the northern part the island reaches a height of 250 meters. According to the 2001 Indian census, the island was home to 2,043 people, and the largest villages were: Bengali , Kalasi , Minyuk and Aloorang . The island has an area of ​​101.26 km².

When Austria declared some of the Nicobar Islands to be Austrian crown colonies in 1778 , Teressa was named after the Archduchess Maria Theresa .

Teressa was badly devastated in the great tidal waves of the tsunami as a result of the severe seaquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004 .
