"Terminal" in Bochum (2014)

Terminal is the name of a sculpture by the artist Richard Serra that was designed for documenta 6 in 1977. It consists of four trapezoidal Corten steel plates with a height of 12 m and a total weight of 100 t , which support each other.

As a contribution by Richard Serra in 1977, the terminal was set up as an outdoor work of art during Documenta 6 in Kassel on Friedrichsplatz . It already met with rejection here, also because it invited many passers-by to relieve themselves under the protection of the steel plates, which is why it was also referred to as an "art toilet".

After the end of the Documenta, the city of Bochum bought the sculpture for 300,000 DM (another source speaks of 350,000 DM) and in 1979 it was installed near the main train station.
