Terence "Terry" Augustine Le Sueur (* 1942 in Millbrook , Saint Helier , Jersey ) is a British politician who was Jersey's Chief Minister from 2008 to 2011 .

Life

After attending De La Salle College, Le Sueur completed a physics degree at Jesus College at the University of Oxford , where he worked as King Charles Exhibitioner . After completing his studies, he first worked as a physics teacher at De La Salle College and then as an accountant.

In 1987 he was elected for the first time as a member of the States of Jersey and after his re-elections in 1990, 1993 and 1996 to 1999 he represented the constituencies of St. Helier No. 3 (Vingtaine du Rouge Bouillon and Vingtaine du Mont à l'Abbé) and St. Helier No. 4 (Vingtaine du Mont Cochon) . In 1990, while he was a Member of Parliament, he became Chairman of the Social Security Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Civil Service and Telecommunications. In the 2005 elections he was elected as a senator to the States of Jersey and was a member of the latter after his re-election from 2005 to 2011. In December 2005 he took over the office of Minister for Treasury and Resources in the government of Chief Minister Frank Walker , which he held until December 2008. In his function as finance minister, he explained the development of the island of Jersey from an agricultural and tourism-heavy economy to an international financial center and one of the largest tax havens in the Austrian documentary Let’s Make Money, directed by Erwin Wagenhofer .

On December 12, 2008, Le Sueur finally succeeded Frank Walker as Chief Minister of Jersey . He was able to prevail in the election in the States of Jersey with 36 to 17 votes clearly against Senator Alan Breckon . He officially took office on December 12, 2008. He held the office of Chief Minister until November 18, 2011, when he was replaced by Ian Gorst . For his services to Jersey he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on January 1, 2012 . In May 2012, he was questioned by the Public Accounts Committee about the payment of severance payments "( Golden Handshakes )" for former government employees.
