The Tessanda ( Romansh for "weaving") is a hand weaving mill in Santa Maria Val Müstair . It has existed since 1928 and is one of the most important training companies in the structurally weak Val Müstair valley .

history

The Tessanda was brought into being by the Reformed pastor Rudolf Filli , who wanted to counteract the emigration of young people. In 1928 he was the first director of Tessanda Fida Lori (1897–1952). Ida Rothenberger Pfenninger (* 1913) ran Tessanda from 1952 to 1967. During this time, a foundation was established, which in 1959 was able to accommodate the Tessanda in its own house. From 1968 to 2003 Reingard Neunhoeffer (* 1940) was the third director of Tessanda. In 2007 Tabea Tscharland was employed as the head of Tessanda, and Petra Haldimann has been in this position since 2008 .

Products

Tessanda tries to expand the product range to include silk goods, for example , while maintaining the traditional technique on the hand loom . The company has 25 historical looms, 18 of which are currently (as of 2011) used in production.

organization

Tessanda , which is recognized by the canton of Graubünden as a training company, is supported by a donors' association alongside the foundation .
