The Tetrabrachiidae ( Gr .: tetra = four, brachion = arm) are a family of small, little-researched marine fish related to the frogfish . Until 2009, the family only had one species, Tetrabrachium ocellatum , so it was monotypical . In 2009 a second species was finally described, Dibrachichthys melanurus . Both species live on the coasts of Australia , New Guinea and Indonesia .

features

The fish are five to seven centimeters long. Their head is large, the mouth for armfinches is rather small, the eyes are small. Palatine teeth and a swim bladder are missing. The trunk is elongated and laterally flattened, the skin is loose. The gill opening is small and sits under the base of the pectoral fin .

Your dorsal fin is supported by 14 to 17 rays , the anal fin by eight to twelve. The first ray of the dorsal fin is transformed into a small Illicium ("Angel").
