Devil (heraldry)

Devil lying defeated by the archangel

The devil is a common figure in heraldry and is represented in human form with two horns, tailed and with a horse's foot . The fight with the Archangel Gabriel is often shown in the coat of arms. The angel stands in the coat of arms triumphant over the lying Satan.

The depiction of the devil is not uniform. Wings, mostly bat wings, are also sealed on him for recognition and he also comes with a trident . Pointed ears or a short goatee (goatee) should "beautify" its appearance.

The color scheme is not fixed, but is often preferred in black or red. Occasionally the coat of arms becomes the talking coat of arms for the family name Teufel .
