The Law on the Unification of Education is a Turkish reform law that subordinated all schools and other educational institutions to the Ministry of National Education . The standardization led to the closure of the Madāris and was intended to eliminate the prevailing chaos in the school system, counteract illiteracy and enable "nation education".

The law of March 3, 1924 came into force on March 6, 1924 when it was published in the Official Journal . As a reform protection law it is under special protection of the Turkish constitution (Art. 174).

National upbringing

In Ankara the Congress of Education ( Maarif Kongresi ) was opened on July 16, 1921 , at which Mustafa Kemal Pascha gave the opening speech. In this speech, the future President of the Republic declared "national education" as follows:

“I am of the opinion that the methods of teaching and upbringing we have done so far are a very important factor in the gradual historical decline of our nation. Therefore, when I speak of a national educational program, I mean building a culture that corresponds to our national character and history, which is far removed from the religious fables of earlier times, from alien ideas that have absolutely no relation to our natural characteristics have, and from all influences from the east or west.
