Textile laminate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A textile laminate is a multi-layer, flexible sheet-like structure that contains at least one textile ( woven , knitted or non-woven fabric ) that is flatly connected to other layers. These further layers can also be textiles, foils made of plastic or metal , foam or others. The connection is made by material bonding, for example by gluing or fusing on special textile machines .

The lamination creates a material that combines the properties of its raw materials: a strong fabric provides tear and abrasion resistance, a plastic film is waterproof and windproof, and the connection with a metal film results in an opaque material that may also reflect thermal radiation.

Textile laminates are particularly well known for their use as climatic substances in functional clothing . The textile is generally laminated with a very thin membrane film that is at least windproof and breathable , and usually also waterproof.

In contrast to most other laminate materials, textile laminates can generally also be processed like textiles, for example by sewing .
