Théodore Godefroy
Théodore Godefroy (born July 14, 1580 in Geneva , † October 16, 1649 in Münster ) was a French historiographer and diplomat . He was the eldest son of Denis Godefroy .
Life
Théodore Godefroy was born on July 14, 1580 in Geneva to Denis Godefroy and his wife Denise de Saint Yon. He studied history. Raised in a Calvinist family, he converted to the Catholic faith and worked in Paris as an official historian from 1613.
From time to time, like his father, he was entrusted with diplomatic missions. He was a member of the French delegation that was supposed to prepare the European peace agreement in Munster . After the peace treaty was concluded in 1648, he remained as envoy in Münster. He died there the following year on October 16 at the age of 69.
Works
His most important work is "Le Cérémonial de France" (1619), which describes the royal court ceremony. In addition to his printed writings, he compiled a wealth of material that has been preserved in manuscripts and fills over 500 files in the Librairie de l 'Institute in Paris.
