The Thüren or the Thürensee is an elongated lake and is located in the municipality of Lärz in the south of the Mecklenburg Lake District about ten kilometers west of Mirow in southeast Mecklenburg.
geography
The door has an approximate length of 2600 meters and an approximate width of 400 meters. The lake is strongly structured, so there are two distinct bays in the south. One of them is the Tralowsee , which is around 1200 meters long and 300 meters wide. The lake was named after the former village of Tralow, located on the lake. In the northern part of the lake there is another bay, Im Langen Ort , which stretches to the east and ends in a swampy manner in the east. Large parts of the bank are forested and the Lärzer district of Alt Gaarz is located on the northwest bank.
Fish stocks
The lake is used for fishing. The main fish species are carp, tench, pike, pikeperch, perch, trout, eel and various species of whitefish.
history
In the southern part at the transition to the Tralowsee there is a rectangular rampart with two 1.5 meter high section walls on the eastern bank. Ceramic finds of the Feldberger and Menkendorfer types can be traced back to the origins of the castle in the Old to Middle Slavic period (7th to 10th centuries).
In the Alt Gaarzer half-timbered church there is a memorial plaque for twelve young people who drowned on April 5, 1885 during a boat trip on Lake Thüren.
