Thuringian Theater Association
The Thuringian Theater Association is the regional association of the independent professional and non-professional theater scene in Thuringia with its headquarters in Rudolstadt .
history
The origin of the Thuringian Theater Association lies in amateur theater. With the overcoming of the division of Germany and the associated changes in the east, numerous amateur theaters in Thuringia lost their sponsorship, funding and, in many cases, their play and rehearsal locations. An initiative group that u. a. Erni Teuscher , Renate Lichnok , Lothar Geyer , Andreas Ittner and Frank Grünert , called the Thuringian Amateur Theater Association in Weimar on September 20, 1990 . V. as a regional association and interest group. At the time it was founded, the association consisted of eight amateur stages.
Right from the start, the regional association initiates national and international guest performances, projects and festivals, organizes further training courses, advises its members and acts in cultural-political interest representation and public relations. As soon as it was founded, the regional association became a member of the East German Amateur Theater Association, which shortly thereafter became part of the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT).
In 2010 the regional association began a content-related and structural realignment. In the course of opening up and promoting a reorientation that has already been carried out in practice, the regional association has since represented the interests of the Thuringian amateur theater and for the independent, professional theater scene in Thuringia. On June 16, 2011, the association's general meeting decided to change the statutes accordingly and to rename the association to “Thuringian Theater Association”.
2012 Thuringian Theater Association praised the first time the Thuringian Theater Award - sponsored by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen - out. The first meeting of nominees and award winners, the “ Avant Art Festival ”, took place in Weimar in the same year. Since then, the festival has been held every two years at different locations in Thuringia.
Since 2015 the Thuringian Theater Association has been organizing the international festival “Theaterwelten” in Rudolstadt together with the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT), which combines international performances of the performing arts with workshops and specialist conferences every two years.
Members
As of July / 2018, the Thuringian Theater Association has 42 member stages, groups and member clubs. These directly represented ensembles are joined by around 30 other small ensembles and puppeteers who are organized in their member associations - the LAG Puppenspiel and the Freie Bühne Jena. Overall, the regional association of the independent theater scene of Thuringia represents well over 2000 voluntary and over 250 professional theater workers in Thuringia.

The association is a network for the independent theater scene in Thuringia and unites amateur theater, independent professional theater and independent theater professionals in one state agency. It represents the interests of its members in terms of cultural policy on a regional, national and international level and maintains working relationships with state and social institutions and organizations with the aim of winning them over as promoters and supporters of all forms of independent theater.
He actively participates in cultural-political processes and is in constant professional exchange with ministries, politics and other state and federal associations.
The Thuringian Theater Association advocates the preservation and development of the diversity of theatrical means, conceptions, styles and forms, for experiments and trials, for cooperation with other artistic forms and for equal opportunities for groups and individuals in Thuringia.
It also organizes further training and qualification offers for its members. He is a cooperation partner and organizer of numerous national and international festivals and other projects.
