Federal Association of Independent Theater
The Federal Association of Independent Theater represents the interests of the independent, d. H. Stage workers not engaged in publicly supported theaters in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was founded in 1990 and is today organized as an umbrella organization for regional associations and associated members.
tasks
Important issues of the association are the social, economic and legal situation of dance and theater professionals in the Federal Republic of Germany. Fair and transparent public funding structures are part of this. The tasks of the association include advising the members in the regional associations and the regional associations themselves. The association also advises public and private sponsors on the development and work of the independent performing arts. The Federal Association of Independent Theaters is the publisher and client of studies and work materials. It regularly organizes specialist days and other cultural-political events, on the one hand to exchange information between the members and on the other hand to facilitate dialogue with partners in administration and politics.

The Federal Association of Independent Theaters currently has 15 regional associations with a total of around 1200 individual members.

Individual members of the regional associations are solo players, fixed groups or institutions of the independent performing arts; Increasingly, especially in the big cities, there are also actors who belong to the field of performing arts, but who do not define themselves as artists, but work as production managers or technicians.
The Federal Association of Independent Theaters is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
