Thaco (more precisely Truong Hai Auto Corporation ) is a Vietnamese automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Ho Chi Minh City .

history

The company was founded in April 1997 as Truong Hai Automobile Co., Ltd. founded. In 2007 it changed its name to Truong Hai Auto Corporation .

For the production of Mazda models, the joint venture Vina Mazda Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. founded and opened a first plant in 2011. 300 people are employed at this plant in Núi Thành , which has a theoretical production capacity of 10,000 vehicles. Another plant was opened in 2018.

With 90 million US dollars, Thaco was one of the financially strongest automobile manufacturers in Vietnam after Ford Vietnam and Honda Vietnam in 2017 .

Thaco dominated around 40% of the truck market, 50% of the bus market and 26% of the passenger car market in Vietnam in 2017. In March 2018, a new production plant for Mazda models was opened.

According to its own information, the company employs 14,900 people.

Models

Thaco produces and sells vehicles of the Kia , Hyundai , Mazda and Peugeot brands . The Mazda2 is manufactured at Vina Mazda .
