Thai World Hockey League

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thai World Hockey League (TWHL for short) is the highest ice hockey league in Thailand .

history

The first ice hockey rink had existed in Thailand as early as the 1970s and in 1994 the Flying Farangs, a selection team of foreign players in Thailand, were set up to take part in various tournaments. In order to promote the development of ice hockey in Thailand, the Thai World Hockey League was founded in 2003 by the American Scott Whitcomb and the Canadian Scott Murray, both of whom had previously played in the Flying Farangs.

The TWHL consists of about half of local players and foreigners and provides the majority of the players in the Thai national team .

In addition to the TWHL game operations, the league's organizers run the Land of Smiles Classic and the City of Angels Cup , in which up to 30 teams from 15 Asian countries take part every year.

The last edition of the league so far was won by the Pattaya Oilers in the 2010/11 season.
