Thales is an impact crater to the northeast of the moon's front . It lies west of the Strabo crater and northwest of the De La Rue whale plain (lunar crater) . The crater is deep and little eroded.
In 1892, Edward Barnard observed transient phenomena at Thales Crater . Barnard reports that on March 31, 1892, when the crater was near the terminator , he observed a pronounced haze inside and over the crater rim.
