The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

This term refers to two groups of mosses that are not directly related to one another, namely the class of Marchantiopsida and the order of Metzgeriales from the class of Jungermanniopsida . The former have a complex thallus, which usually has air chambers inside and respiratory pores, the latter have a simply constructed thallus consisting of only a few cell layers.

The term Thallose Lebermoose is occasionally used as a German name for the class of Marchantiopsida .
