Athanasios "Thanassis" Michalopoulos ( Greek Αθανάσιος "Θανάσης" Μιχαλόπουλος , born September 29, 1973 in Athens ) is a former Greek beach volleyball player .
Career
Michalopoulos played for the first time with Manolis Roumelitis at the European Championships in 1999 , but did not get beyond last place. A year later there were two clear defeats in Getxo against Kjemperud / Høidalen and the German Dieckmann brothers. In the preliminary round of the 2001 World Cup , they couldn't win a set against their competitors from Brazil and the USA.
Michalopoulos then formed a new duo with Pavlos Beligratis . In 2003 the Greeks could not win a set at either the European Championship in Alanya or the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro . In the 2004 Olympic tournament in Athens they had to give up their last group game in front of a home crowd after two defeats due to an injury. After the tournament, they parted ways. Michalopoulos played with Emmanouil Xenakis until 2007 , but was not able to achieve any top placements apart from a ninth place at the Athens Open 2005.
