The Tharp Ice Rise is an approximately 2.1 km long ice dome on the front of the Larsen Ice Shelf on the Black Coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 24 km east of Cape Fanning on the Merz Peninsula .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1977 after the US geologist and cartographer Marie Tharp (1920–2006).
