The Cape Fanning is a cape on the Black Coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located on the north side of the entrance to Violante Inlet .
It was discovered during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) during a flight over in December 1940. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1947 after the navigator and explorer Edmund Fanning (1769–1841), whose book Voyages Round the World from 1833 give an impressive insight into the early efforts in the exploration of the Antarctic.
